There is far more to walking on Mallorca than the GR221 -spectacular as it is. For this new Mallorcan holiday, we move to the far north of the island to the beautiful and traditional walled town of Alcudia to explore the spectacular Formentor and Alcudia peninsulas, walk sections of the GR222, a second pilgrimage route on the island which runs from Arta to the monastery at Lluc, and explore the northern Tramuntana mountains.

Holiday highlights

  • Explore the bays, peninsulas and mountains of the north coast of Mallorca, an area we only started to delve into on the GR221
  • Explore the beautiful Formentor peninsula and walk on the incredibly engineered Cami Vell once the only access route for the Far (lighthouse) de Formentor.
  • Walk sections of the GR222, a pilgrimage route that winds its way through the mountains from Arta to the monastery at Lluc.
  • Stay in the Petit Alcudia boutique hotels in the traditional walled Mallorcan town of Alcudia and eat in the lovely Sa Mossegada restaurant.

Accommodation

Alcudia is one of the attractive traditional old towns of Mallorca. Originally settled by the Romans with the building of the Roman city of Pol-lentia, the town walls were constructed in the 14th century after the Catalan conquest by King James II. Inside the town walls lies a beautiful Mallorcan town with sandstone buildings, winding streets and open squares lined with bars, cafes and individual independent shops.

The town of Alcudia is remarkably short of large hotels as the majority of accommodation is down in the port. This makes it a lovely place to stay! For this holiday we use a tiny chain of 3 boutique hotels called Can Calco, with each ‘hotel’ containing 7 or 8 rooms. Our hotels are Petit Alcudia with its fresh and modern rooms, located in a building of great antiquity, and C’an Simo, a 1-minute walk away, a carefully remodelled 19th century manor house. All rooms are comfortable and en-suite

Meals are taken in the hotel restaurant, Sa Mossegada, a few doors away from the hotel.
